Joe Sheehan writes this in this morning's newsletter (subscription info etc.):

I should mention here that I'm impressed by Charlie Manuel's communication skills. [Wilson] Valdez's effectiveness was no doubt enhanced by Manuel letting him know that he might be used in a tied game in extra innings.

It will come as no surprise to you that Sheehan and I agree on this A's bullpen management / communication "issue", so this made me laugh.
