Sabathia hurt

The Indians look, to me and to a lot of people, like the class of the AL Central. That said, if CC Sabathia is hurt in any significant way (he just left the White Sox - Indians game with an owie - it looks to be rib-cage-related), that could really hurt this team. They don't strike me as all that deep in starting pitching.

Opening Day!!!

For whatever reason, this is as excited as I've been in years for an Opening Day. Maybe it's the knowledge that the A's are being seen by many as the class of the American League. Maybe it's the fact that I need an escape from "regular" life more than ever (no, nothing tragic has happened - law school is just really stressful). Or maybe all the sidelines this year (steroids, Bonds, WBC) just made me hunger more for real, actual baseball between major league teams. Whatever it is, Chicago's playing Cleveland in a couple of minutes, and I couldn't be happier.

Crosby for MVP?

Harold Reynolds just pimped our boy Bobby Crosby for MVP this year. Reynolds's heart is in the right place, but I think his head is misguided. Crosby's (a) on the west coast and (b) a shortstop. That last part is relevant because even if Crosby is the most valuable player in the league by some position-neutral metric (like VORP or WARP), it's likely that some left-fielder or first-baseman will put up sexier overall numbers that will seduce a number of writers.
