Here's Baseball Prospectus's "Call-Up" column on Gray, the most notable aspect of which is Nick J. Faleris's statement that "there is little question now he has the tools to start."
As I mentioned in posts last night, that's a different tune than we've been hearing for the last few years about Gray's ability to be in a rotation vs. having to make his way as a bullpen weapon. If it's true, and more important if the A's scouts and other evaluators are on the same page, then perhaps this lessens the "should he stay in the 'pen?" effect I worried about. That is, to the extent that there's no confirmation bias problem, perhaps the odds that he winds up employed suboptimally decrease to some degree.
