A's manager situation

Peter Gammons just said on Baseball Tonight (in the afternoon, though) that Macha is out as A's manager. He wanted more money than Billy Beane was willing to give him, so he's going to just move on, let Macha leave as a free agent, and take the draft picks. Well, ok, maybe no draft picks. It looks like Bob Geren (according to Gammons) is going to get his shot with the big club now. It seems that the A's have been grooming Geren for this job for a number of years, so in some sense, the future could be now.
Best hopes? He's the guy who actually implements the optimal bullpen wherein Huston Street never pitches in a game with a run differential greater than two.
