High school kids in the A's system

This, from Susan Slusser, points out the difficulties inherent in drafting high school kids and taking them away from home to play baseball, earn a living, eat on their own, and so forth, and notes that helping provide support systems is perhaps a special challenge for a team like the A's that had adapted its minor league program to handling waves of college kids coming in. With the A's recent move to more high school talent as the rest of the league has glommed on to the idea of drafting college players, the system has had to make some adjustments.
