John Perrotto says, "The Angels are also trying to land Athletics reliever Michael Wuertz, and are said to be offering infielder Sean Rodriguez." (Link.)
Dear Billy Beane: please accept this offer. Now. Wuertz is a free agent after this year. Rodriguez is a middle infielder (he's played second more recently, but he was a shortstop not so long ago) who can hit. Couldn't the A's use one of those?
EDIT: This went in the comments when the entry was posted, but I realized that I should make the correction in the post: Wuertz is not a free agent after this year because he doesn't have the service time. He is arbitration-eligible instead. I read his entry on Cot's Baseball Contracts, saw that his contract length was one year, and forgot to check whether he had actually passed out of the reserve phase of his career yet. Thanks to Ken Arneson for pointing this out.
