Tommy Everidge is indeed in the lineup for the A's, and he's 0-3 so far, including one strikeout on a pitch that was about six feet outside. He's looked a little anxious, swinging more than I imagine he did down on the farm (his walk rate is pretty solid). This is where the story that Everidge had never even been invited to big league training camp becomes relevant: he's never even been close to the Show before, so a little nervousness might be more expected out of him than out of a top prospect with a big bonus, invited to big league camp one or two times before finally getting the callup and becoming a major league regular.

The other point is that the A's are really collecting guys who don't sell jeans. Oakland could plausibly run out a lineup that batted Jack Cust, Tommy Everidge, and Landon Powell back-to-back-to-back. That's 750 pounds of ok baseball player right there. Throw in Brett Anderson on the mound and a little Brett Wallace action at third base, with Jason Giambi making a return from the DL to DH, and 60% of your lineup in a professional baseball game might be referred to as rotund.

I'm trying to think of who the A's could add in left field, center, and the two middle-infield spots to make this an all-chub team. Ronnie Belliard at second base, perhaps? Jhonny Peralta at short? Andruw Jones doesn't belong in center anymore, but let's put him there for old times' sake. And we'll top it all off with Carlos Lee in left field.
