Consensus top prospects

MLB.com released their updated A's top 30, and apparently MLB.com is now ranking 30 prospects instead of just 20. I guess that's neat. You can find their breakdown of the prospect class, written by Teddy Cahill, here.

Positions are where the player is currently; level assignment is a guess. I've also added age in this revision, which is the age the player is considered for the upcoming season based on their June 30/July 1 age.

The Top

  1. Franklin Barreto, SS, 19, Low-A Beloit
  2. Matt Olson, 1B, 21, Double-A Midland

The Not Quite Top

  1. Renato Nunez, 3B, 21, Double-A Midland
  2. Matt Chapman, 3B, 22, High-A Stockton
  3. Kendall Graveman, SP, 24, Triple-A Nashville
  4. Sean Nolin, SP, 25, Triple-A Nashville
  5. Dillon Overton, SP, 23, Low-A Beloit
  6. Yairo Munoz, SS, 20, Low-A Beloit
  7. Chad Pinder, 2B, 23, Double-A Midland
  8. Raul Alcantara, SP, 22, Double-A Midland

Yairo Munoz now has enough love, after being ranked eighth by MLB, to jump into this area of the list. He's more or less a consensus top-10 prospect, though Baseball America and FanGraphs have him just outside that area.

The Reliever

  1. R.J. Alvarez, RP, 24, MLB

The Great Middle

  1. Chris Bassitt, SP, 26, Triple-A Nashville
  2. Bobby Wahl, RP, 23, High-A Stockton
  3. Daniel Gossett, RP, 22, Low-A Beloit
  4. Rangel Ravelo, 1B, 23, Triple-A Nashville
  5. Joe Wendle, 2B, 25, Triple-A Nashville
  6. Brett Graves, RP, 22, Low-A Beloit

The Rest

  1. Max Muncy, 1B, 24, Triple-A Nashville
  2. Mark Canha, 1B/OF, 26, MLB or bust
  3. Billy Burns, CF, 25, Triple-A Nashville
  4. Chris Kohler, LHP, 20, Short-season Vermont
  5. Bruce Maxwell, C, 24, Double-A Midland
  6. Jesus Lopez, SS, 18, Arizona League
  7. Dylan Covey, RHP, 23, High-A Stockton
  8. Dustin Driver, RHP, 20, Short-season Vermont
  9. Heath Fillmyer, RHP, 21, Low-A Beloit
  10. Jaycob Brugman, LF/RF, 23, Double-A Midland
  11. Ryon Healy, 3B, 23, Double-A Midland
  12. Trace Loehr, SS, 20, Short-season Vermont
  13. Arnold Leon, RHP, 26, Triple-A Nashville

Muncy and Maxwell fall out of The Great Middle and into The Rest based on MLB downgrading its assessment of each pretty significantly. Maxwell had only been as high as he was based on an anomalously high 2014 MLB.com ranking anyway.

The Not Really Prospects So Much As Guys Who Got Mentioned Somewhere or Other

  1. B.J. Boyd, CF, 21, Low-A Beloit
  2. Aaron Shipman, OF, 23, Double-A Midland
  3. Tanner Peters, RHP, 24, Double-A Midland
  4. Branden Kelliher, RHP, 19, Short-season Vermont?
  5. Jordan Schwartz, RHP, 23, Low-A Beloit
  6. Pat Venditte, RHP, 30, Triple-A Nashville
  7. Tyler Ladendorf, SS, 27, Triple-A Nashville
  8. Ryan Doolittle, RHP, 27, Triple-A Nashville
  9. Ryan Dull, RHP, 25, Triple-A Nashville
  10. Seth Frankoff, RHP, 26, Triple-A Nashville
  11. Jake Sanchez, RHP, 25, Double-A Midland
  12. Chad Smith, RHP, 25, Triple-A Nashville
  13. Branden Cogswell, SS, 22, Low-A Beloit
  14. Kyle Finnegan, RHP, 23, High-A Stockton
  15. Iolana Akau, C, 19, Arizona League
  16. Chris Jensen, RHP, 24, Triple-A Nashville
  17. Sandber Pimentel, 1B, 20, Short-season Vermont
  18. Jose Chavez, C, 19, Low-A Beloit
  19. Seong-Min Kim, C, 22, Low-A Beloit

Boyd and Shipman fall down into the Guys Who Got Mentioned group. Boyd is MLB.com's biggest Faller, dropping from no. 12 in 2014 to unranked in 2015. Tough to complain after the .226/.300/.319 line he put up at Low-A in 2014.
